When you discover that this theory is actually the truth, it will really hurt.
But it makes sense, considering the show started after the nuclear war where humanity is wiped out of existence.

Can I just take a moment to talk about why I’m obsessed with Sora and Tai? It always frustrated me how everyone thought Sora and Taichi’s argument in Our War Game was stupid. Granted, it was about a hair pin, but it had so much meaning under the surface if you were willing to look for it. Sora obviously holds Taichi’s opinion very close to her heart, but I don’t think she’d ever admit that. You can tell in one of the first (adorable) scenes when she’s checking her hair in the mirror on the street. When she touches her hair, I always think she’s secretly wondering if Taichi thinks it would look alright that day. I think the fact that she wondered that probably frustrates her more than she’d like to admit. After all, she spent a lot of adventure being the ‘logical voice’ for Taichi’s opinions until later in the season. I think the reason their argument lasted so long was more internal on Sora’s part, and Taichi, even though he really had no idea what was going on, held in there because he cared about her.
But anyways, back to this picture, it always gives me chills. This is the single moment that makes me love Taiora, and even just their friendship, more than any other part of the season. Take a moment to notice the giant fucking tidal wave behind her. It’s huge. Most people would panic if they noticed it. This girl didn’t even see it. There is a huge mass of water just outside her window, but her eyes are shaking as she stares at her computer, oblivious to everything else. Sora’s so caught up in the e-mail from Taichi that she doesn’t notice what’s going on outside. How emotionally invested I think she must have gotten in that single e-mail, playing the words over and over in her head, trying to figure out what to think. Maybe this is my love for Taiora coming out, but I think in that moment, in the silence as she registered everything, Tai was Sora’s favorite person in the world.
And after she’s done reading the e-mail and reacting to it, she mutters again “Stupid Tai”. Why? I think it’s because she’s fully realized he’s making her feel all these things she can’t control. Whether it be love for him as a friend or more, I don’t know, but the feels that scene gives me. I can’t. It hit her how much Taichi cared about her, and I think that pulled out all kinds of emotions that Sora was trying to hide from herself. “Stupid Tai..” To be totally honest, I think we’d all be lucky to have a friendship like theirs.
